Trio64 and svgalib - solved!!!

There has been some discussion on this list earlier this month about
problems people are running into with the Trio64 card and svgalib, mainly
that the screen is broken up when you exit. I have found that version
1.2.10 of svgalib solves these problems.
"But," you ask, "I installed RedHat 4.0 and my version of svgalib is
1.2.10 and Doom still screws up my screen! Why?"
I asked myself the same question... and finally the light bulb lit! Of
course! Doom (and Abuse, and many other non-free svgalib programs) are
a.out! They don't use the ELF library that's in the svgalib-1.2.10 RPM!
They use the one in the a.out compatibility RPM, and that's 1.2.7! So I
looked on sunsite (actually on the 3rd CD of my RedHat Archives) and
found /pub/Linux/libs/graphics/svgalib-1.2.10.tar.gz, and nestled within
it was the a.out version of the library. I replaced the library in
/usr/i486linuxaout/lib (or some directory to that effect, me@work,
redhat@home) with this one, reran ldconfig, retried Doom (after
configuring /etc/libvga.config to force usage of the S3 chip), and voila!
No screen messing on exit!
So to recap: you should replace the a.out 1.2.7 version of the library
with the 1.2.10 version.

P.S. I make no guarantees, expressed or implied, that this will work for
you. Also, if you have anything like a Trio64+, you're on your own.
