I am really getting frustrated here! I have RH 3.0.3 upgraded to kernel
2.0.21 (not rembrandt). I installed 3.0.3 originally from Infomagic CD's.
Since I am totally ignorant of Unix/Linux networking, I followed the
install instructions. The first indication of trouble was setting up my
email to/from my ISP. I discovered that sendmail was putting
"brtaylor@localhost" in the headers. I fixed that in sendmail.cf. I have
now discovered that knews does what apparently is a dns search for "localhost"
as well as Mosaic ( I use diald).
Looking at /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit I find "hostname ${HOSTNAME}" which
translates to my FQDN of qtpi.lakewood.ca.us. I have read the HOWTO's and
both adm books at least twice. I find discrepencies between what the docs
say and what I have, i.e. localhost IP address 127.0.0.1 and 127.0.0.0.
The docs say (DNS and BIND also) that the IP address should be 127.0.0.1.
Why does ifconfig say it is 127.0.0.0? Why does knews and Mosaic (and Arena)
find localhost? What should my /etc/HOSTNAME, /etc/resolv.conf, /etc/
sysconfig/network and /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/* files contain?
I'm really baffled as well as frustrated! Will the experts here PLEASE
help me?

P.S. Before you get mad at me - question: how many of you set up a Unix
box BEFORE you learned Unix?
