: : Ok. Now suppose one of the machines is using windoze 3.1 (trumpet
: : winsock). Said machine would dump all its files onto the linux box,
: : so that it would the have its hd cleaned and linux would be
: : installed on it, without losing its files (which would be backed up

: : How would one do this?

: : The catch is that, as far as I can tell, the trumpet makes a phone
: : call to establish ppp. If there is something trivial that works in
: : its stead, please let me know. TIA,
:
: You can 'manual login' with trumpet and login to your Linux box. Make
: sure the account you login to starts PPP, and of you go. Alternatively
: you van start pppd and point it to the serial port, when trumpet
: starts there will be no login, the connection will start imediately.
: (remove getty from inittab for that port)
trumpet setup:
Online Status Detection: [none]
Internal PPP
Baudrate 115200 (replace comms.drv with cybercom.drv)
[NO] Hardware Handshake
[NO] Van Jacobson CSLIP compression
-when you start trumpet choose 'dailer', choose 'manual login',
hit 'enter' and you will get your Linux login prompt, login
as user 'ppp' and hit the escape key ....
linux setup: (add a ppp account to your passwdfile)
ppp:secret-passwd:0:1:PPP Login:/tmp:/etc/ppp/ppplogin
ppplogin:
#!/bin/sh
/usr/sbin/pppd local passive :194.109.12.170
Hope this helps,
