I'm not familiar with apsfilter (I'm using magicfilter for the Red Hat
replacement to the current simple print filter shipped), but I can take 
a stab at your problem...

One thing to try is to see if configuring your printer with printtool
helps. I know this isn't what you want in the end, but its easier to
debug the simple script printtool installs than the apsfilter filter!

Try printing both text and PS files once this is configured. You
may/may not need to choose "Suppress headers".

Let us know what this does and then we can move on to debugging apsfilter
if it is indeed the problem...
