Thanks. Removing the pam_securetty.so worked like charm.
Is there any hope of some desciption of PAM in the next version of
"Red Hat Linux"- User's guide?

PS: The "chfn" program reports my name as one including
control-characters, and disallowed it. Since my name doesn't include
anyone of these, it's a bug (and you don't get one if you strip the
upper bit either)
