I'd suggest fetchpop. But I don't think Fetchmail is bad either.

Definitely. Start it with "-d" , and it starts in the background as a
daemon, checking your mail on the other machine every 5 minutes (or
whatever interval specify). Fetchpop can also store the encrypted
passwd (although the file should be 0600, of course), and it has an
automatic interface to procmail ("-p"). Lots of other features as well.
