I just installed RedHat Linux 4.0 from the October Archives and built a
custom kernel. Now I am trying to use the X-hosted Control Panel, but X
has stopped working. It started fine the first time. Then I accidentally
chose something from the menu, I think it was games, but I'm not sure.
Whatever it was, it locked up X windows. I waited for 10 minutes, but the
drive light stayed on, and C-A-bksp and C-A-Del were ineffective. I think
fsck cleaned up my partitions okay, but now when I try to start X, it just
stays at the black-and-white patterned root window indefinitely.

My machine has a 430FX? PCI motherboard with a 6x86-P120+, 48Mb of RAM, a
Seagate ST32140A, and a Diamond Stealth64 Video 2201 with 2Mb of RAM. I
had previously been using Slackware 3.0, including Xfree86 3.1, with no
problems.
