The easiest way to fix sendmail problems is to replace it with qmail.
Qmail is smaller, simpler, faster, more secure, and its configuration
files are comprehensible to mere mortals.

It only took me three hours to ftp the qmail distribution, read the
documentation, build it, install it, run the acceptance tests, and
configure and test two virtual domains. I'd spent somewhere between
20 and 30 hours unsuccessfully trying to get sendmail to do the same
thing. I only wish someone had told me about qmail sooner.

See http://www.qmail.org/

Cheers,
Eric
