The netcfg tool from control-panel let's you do just that. You just need
to know what to expect from the remote server to get you into PPP mode. In
netcfg, just goto Interfaces, select your ppp config, edit, Communication,
and tell it what to expect from the server, and what to send as a
response. Save it, and that should do it.

One of the cool things about RedHat is that sendmail practically works
right out of the box. In my case, I have a static ip from my ISP (employee
benefits ;), so I can send mail to people and receive mail with no
problem. In the case of getting your mail off a remote server, fetchpop is
awesome for this. You just run it and it'll put all your mail in your
proper mail file so you can read it from what ever reader you like. If you
have a dynamic IP, however, I wouldn't suggest sending mail from your comp
unless you can have your mailer send just the domain name (or however your
e-mail addressing goes) because it can be very messy if someone replies to
it. I haven't really played with it might, but I'm sure sendmail can be
configured to have the replyto always be to a certain machine.
Anyhow, I hope that helps you to some extent. I invite everyone to fill in
the gaps if possible.
