AFS caching doesn't help much that I've seen (and I've used it *alot*).
Besides, to get any good performance from the AFS cache requires alot
of local disk space. I do like AFS for many things, but for simple
data replication it isn't the way to go. For distributed computing
of more than 100 users or so, it starts to become a viable alternative.
Unfortunately, not on Linux.

Please, don't hold your breathe. I only told folks to let you know that
we do think this kind of thing is a priority and that we are working on
it. The horizon could be any time from now till doomsday...
