Here is a long list of miscellaneous questions, which I hope
can be a answered:

1) Is pam needed? I don't need any more security than passwording,
so can I safely remove the pam rpm? Also, pam is missing a man
   page.

2) Can I add a new user-defined run level 7? If so, how?

3) I am looking for a fax Tip or HowTo, but I couldn't find any
   Is there one available?
     a) I tried efax, which I could only run as root. Even when
run as root, it told me that connection could not be
        established.
     b) I tried mgetty and that responded with
         /usr/bin/faxspool: newslock: command not found
        when I run sendfax.
     c) I tried running hylafax and it kept responding with
        fax service not available.
All I want is the ability to send postscript and text files
from my pc to a fax machine. Has anyone else got this to
   work? If so how?

4) Can I mount a remote Tape drive and printer that are connected
to a Solaris workstation at my office? If so how?

5) Can a non-root user mount and unmount the cd-rom drive? If so how?

6) If rpm package f1.rpm contains /usr/man/fax.1 and this installed.
If I want to install rpm package f2.rpm which also contains file
/usr/man/fax.1, can I a) diff the two man pages before installing,
and b) can I install (without forcing) only files that are unique?
Or have all duplicate files automatically backed up?

7) Is there a way to get emacs (or xemacs) to follow html links? I
know I can run lynx from a shell, but is there an html mode
   built into emacs?

8) How do I get netscape ftp to recognize that file ending in,
say .rpm, is a downloadable file?

9) Is there a way to check to see how many rpms depend on the
   existence of a certain file?

10) Is there a way to check the present shell type so that I
    can do something like:
      if (SHELLTYPE == bash)
        export DISPLAY=localhost:0.0
else if ((SHELLTYPE == csh) || (SHELLTYPE == tcsh))
        setenv DISPLAY localhost:0.0
      else
echo ("Unrecognized shell type %s.\n", SHELLTYPE)

11) Can I give away my old Linux CDs such as?:
      RedHat 3.0.3
      RedHat 2.1
      CND Preview II
      Slackware
      Linux Monthly's
I don't just want to throw them out, but I would like
to give them away. Do they have any exchange value?

                                          Thanks in advance
                                          Michael J. Yanowitz
