The answer is yes and no. I have used UPS's that had a deep cycle marine
battery in them. The manufacturer explicitly encouraged attaching other
such batteries by meand of jumper cables. This was, however, something like
a 3000 Watt powersupply that drove a small network. I would have great
caution attaching a car battery to a small power supply. There are several
potential mismatches that may occure. Not the least of which is the ability
of the car battery to deliver far more amperage than a small UPS can handle.
In case of a short, your inverter might blow before the fuse does. At the
least, I'ld council discussing the matter with the manufacturer first.
