I tried that and it worked. Errors were trapped in
compile_errors, the rest in compile_log. I did
also 'make modules 1> ./mod.log 2> ./mod.err.log'.
Much better that staring at xterm for half an hour
and watch the process. I also had my prompt for 
doing other stuff.
