A 12 volt gel battery would be $$100-150 more expensive
compared to an equivalent regular car battery. You might
want to take a look at any big marine equipment store.
A friend of mine has been using them for 10 years already,
even sailed from Vancouver to Portugal and back. He has 14
of them, after 10 years they can still be charged up to 13.8
volts, he also used regular car batteries and golf cart
batteries for starting engines and changed the latter
ones 2 times for the last 10 years.

you get what you pay for.   :)
