ftpd: open of pid file failed??

My ftpd is giving this message:
Nov 8 15:15:14 castor ftpd[4262]: open of pid file failed: No such file
or directory
I didn't get this messages at RH 3.0.3 with the same ftp setup, and as far
as I can tell the ftpd is still working.
