statnet stops working....

RH4.0 plus fixes, 2.0.24, ppp 2.1.2
Symptom:
statnet stops displaying anything other than 0's as status. Pressing 'q'
stops the program and re-starting the program fixes the program for
awhile. But after a while it stops again. Anyone got any gueses as to
why?
