Yes, you are right. The limit is 32, incidentally, and if you are using
NFS only the 1st 16 will be able to be passed over to the NFS server.

You can't. It's built into a million and one different libraries &
programs, not the least of which is the kernel. (BSD only allows 16, I
believe, which is why the NFS standard only allows 16).

Curious question: Why would you want to put the user in more than 16
groups, anyways?
