Here's another workaround that might be useful if you don't use PPP a
lot.

Comment out the nameserver lines in your /etc/resolv.conf

This should stop sendmail from looking for a nameserver on startup.
Then just uncomment them before you start your PPP connection.  Then you
can restart sendmail if you want.
