Please disregard my earlier message.
It helps if you walk away from a problem and come back after 5 minutes!
The problem was my samba configuration where I had the print spool
directory misset!
Thanks anyway...(sigh - it always works - post a message and 5 minutes
later the stupidity leaps off the screen at you and says "fooled
you"!)...
