Well
Having had it pointed out to me that I could use samba to export my
printer from Linux, I have done that.
I have set up two printer queues...as Linux print jobs require filtering
and NT ones don't. This works fine under Linux and I can send text jobs
to either queue (the filter program on lp0 is not producing colour yet,
but I am sure that a read of the GS man will lead me to a fix of that for
my HP850C.
The queues are
##PRINTTOOL## LOCAL cdjcolor 300x300 a4 {}
lp0:\
:sd=/var/spool/lpd/lp0:\
:mx#0:\
:lp=/dev/lp0:\
:if=/var/spool/lpd/lp0/filter:\
:sh:
##PRINTTOOL## LOCAL
nthp|raw:\
:sd=/var/spool/lpd/nthp:\
:mx#0:\
:lp=/dev/lp0:\
:sh:
As you can see, I have these pointing at the SAME device (/dev/lp0).
Now, I can see the printer just fine under Win NT and install it on the NT
machine just fine (during the install process it complains that there is
no "NULL" printer driver on the remote machine and asks if I want to
install it on NT).
I answer yes and all goes smoothly - until I try and print a test page,
when I get "The filename, directory name or volume label is invalid"!
Ideas, suggestions? This is driving me nuts! I have to keep moving the
printer cable from one machine to another...
