This is fixed in the latest gzip package.

Checker is a big job to integrate (which is why I've been to lazy to do
it -- it involves fiddling with libc builds, and really wants you to build
special X libs as well). The gimp uses Motif currently, and we won't ship
statically linked Motif apps as they're pigs.

I'll look into jazz.
