First establish the you're using the right LP by running from an xterm:

lptest > /dev/lp0

or

lptest > /dev/lp1

one these command should send an ASCII test to the device /dev/lp? that =
you printer is connected to.
Then simply use the Control Panel to setup a printer and using the right =
/dev/lp on the dialog box and selecting the right filter for your =
printer.
