Ctrl+C is a standard way to abort processes. So,
when you type "startx" , command prompt doesn't
return, right? Right, until you press ^C which
will abort "startx" script, bring you the shell
prompt back and restore text mode in some time.
Sometimes, it takes very long, e.g. after I try
to start doom, my screen goes blank, then I abort it,
and it takes about 1 minute for my screen to come up.
Something has to do with videoram maybe?
