Help with xterm !

I am having a serious problem. I just upgraded to Colgate from
3.03, then I upgraded to XFree86v3.2. Now, I cannot start any
xterms of any kind(rvxt, color-xterm, etc). The followin error
messages are given to me when I attemp to start one:
xterm: no available ptys
rvxt: can't open pseudo-tty
Can anyone PLEASE explain or help me?
I also can't login from a remote computer, but I suppose this
has to do with hosts.allow and such.
