Just got round to finally upgrading to RH4.0! Very nice, in particular
the install. Here are a few notes/suggestions for future releases...
1) zless gives an error as the script looks in /usr/bin for something
really in /bin! (zcat...?) Perhaps this is fixed in the update rpm's,
though, all of which I am downloading now :-)
2) Quota button on the control panel is greyed out... control panel
editing of quotas would be great!
3) Missing man pages (that may not exist in the first place) -- the XShm
related calls, and any xpm library call man pages. A pain when you're
embarking on writing a game.
4) Control panel - as much more GUI configuration as you can cram in :-)
Seriously, a nice feature would be to let some non-root users have the
privilege to perform certain tasks.
5) Get shadow running by default :-) And remove the annoying 8 character
password limit, the MD5 password extension to the latest shadow-utils is
nice. I also very much like the ability in the shadow package, to dish
out certain supplementary groups to people logging in at the console, eg,
floppy, audio etc. Nice for security. Additionally CHFN_RESTRICT is a
valuable option.
6) Take a long, hard look at the following packages: Checker (better than
ElectricFence if I could get it to work properly!), jazz, gimp.
7) Probably lots more points, when I've played a little more :)
Cheers,
Chris.
