I used to have similar problems (Logitech Mouseman 3-button) until I
made sure I used the mouseman setting in the X config file and removed
ChordMiddle (i.e., set it of OFF)  As I recall there's two mouseman
settings possible, one for older mice, one for newer mice.  If that's
not just my brain messing with me, then I'm using the newer one.

I noticed it most often with fvwm -- when I'd use the middle button
to bring up a menu, I couldn't move the mouse with the button held down,
as the menu would flicker on and off as I moved, moving with me.
