No need to use the helper menu, just put the following in .mime.types and
.mailcap in your home directory (this will handle .wav also):
#.mime.types
type=audio/basic exts=au,snd
type=audio/x-wav exts=wav,voc
#.mailcap
audio/basic; showau %s
audio/x-wav; showwav %s
