Colgate CDROM install dies...Mitsumi FX001D

Hi folks,
I just tried to install Colgate from CDROM on the weekend
and it died on me because install doesn't find the CD in
the drive. It's a Mitsumi FX001D hooked through a SB16
and according to vc4, when the mcd module is loaded, it
finds the drive, but mount craps out saying there's no disc.
I can mount the Colgate CD under a 1.2.13 system though, and
Win95, though....
Any suggestions?
