Netscape and SMTP serverproblem (Eudora is fine)

I have someone trying to use Netscape mail via PPP (winsock)
on my machine. They can receive mail fine (netscape uses POP3)
Sending however is a problem. There was an error back to
the effect that "HELO requires a domain address"
I telneted to my smtp port and interacted

It appears to me netscape mail sends  "helo" instead of "helo glcom.com"

Is this a protocol violation?

With eudora, this problem disappears.

Any words of wisdom?

Help will be much appreciated.
