This has also happened with me. I have tried various shells, various
users, xterms and console, different users. Same thing happens everytime.
Screen starts but never gives the spash screen. The cursor just returns on
the next line. SCREEN shows in the process list, so something is running
but there it never starts a shell and doesn't listen to any of it ^A
commands.

Anyone have any ideas?
