Bug in exmh or misconfig?

I'm using Red Hat 3.0.3 upgraded to kernel 2.0.21 and exmh 1.6.4. I am
connecting to my ISP via PPP and diald 0.14. My domain name is registered
in the us domain with NS records pointing to my ISP's nameservers. My ISP
dumps all incoming email to qtpi.lakewood.ca.us into my account and I have
a
cron job get it via POP3.

If, in my /etc/hosts I have, the following:

     127.0.0.1	localhost

then when exmh starts up or I change folders diald fires up. I don't
understand what exmh is doing (attempting to get mail?). If I change my
/etc/hosts to:

     127.0.0.1	qtpi.lakewood.ca.us

then the previous does not happen. Is this a bug in exmh or do I have
some config file wrong? I'm new to Linux and networking. I'm baffled!

Any suggestions? Please don't tell me to RTFM! I have!

Thanks in advance.

Bob
