As the new maintainer of printtool, I've been reading the problems
that the current version is causing people. I wanted to let everyone
know that we are aware of these problems and the print services
manager is going to be COMPLETELY redone. It is one of my highest
priorities at the moment. The update will fix at least the following:
- a magic filter of some sort will be used that can autodetect the
type of file printer and act appropriately
- this means text files will not go through nenscript/ghostscipt
- the user interface will be revamped to be (imho) easier to use
If you have a printing problem, please send me email (msf@redhat.com)
and let me know your experience. Let me know what you'd like different
and I'll try to incorporate your ideas. I expect to release a 'test'
version of the new tool for people to try out and give me feedback on
in the next few weeks.
