As far as I know, the Network control panel which allows you to add aliases
only works properly with the 4.0 system with several of the updates
installed (it did not work properly directly off the distribution...).
Also, virtual interfaces are not supported in the 1.2 kernel shipped with
3.0.3, you need at least to upgrade to the new kernel.
I am now running kernel 2.0.24 with all the latest 4.0 updates, and
everything seems to be fine, other than lots of "Network Unreachable" error
messages at startup (I get one for each ip number, the real one and the
virtual ones...) But the system seems to be functioning OK.
I think that things just get executed out of order on startup, and once the
system finished the startup process everything is fine. Though I still hate
to see these error messages on startup....
