If you boot from a floppy which allows you to set "linux single" on the boot
prompt, does the machine even read your lilo.conf file? I suspect it doesn't,
since I was able to get into my machine with such a boot floppy, when the
install process had removed the lilo.conf file making regular lilo impossible
to boot. If this is so, setting "restricted" or "password=" in your lilo.conf
file would presumably be a waste of time. Disabling the floppy drive -- at
least for boot purposes -- perhaps removing it from the boot path (in the bios?
) would be best. Of course, this removes a way for you to get into your system
in an emergency. Perhaps the best way is to install some device to prevent
someone physically inserting a floppy in the drive -- I'm sure sombody sells
such things.
