I once has an earlier version installed.  It sounds like the Maelstrom 
sound server has not been installed in the correct location.  You can 
always compile from Sam's sources.  If you do, just be sure to read the 
docs carefully, as sound configuration is strongly platform-dependent.  
Otherwise, it compiles and installs very cleanly, as I recall.
