Printing problems with deskjet 520

I have an HP deskjet 520.
I've had trouble printing since upgrading to colgate.
When printing plain text I get an extra sheet beforehand
with a few lines of garbled text, then the rest is printed
normally. When printing out a postscript file I get
a big smear. I believe I'm using the same print filter,
printcap entry and postscript printing command as I
used under 2.1--any ideas? Or would someone with the
same printer be willing to send me copies of their
filter and printcap?
