greetings. i've finally found the time to sit down and mess around with
linux (redhat to be more specific) and make the conversion from OS/2 so
that i can setup a very small two machine LAN and make use of the IP
masquerading feature.
i do have a couple of questions.
i'm currently using the 3.0.3 distribution of redhat. if/when i order the
newest distribution will all of my hard work screwing around with shell
scripts and configuration files be gone if i make the upgrade or is it
rather painless?
secondly, i have upgraded to the 2.0.0 kernel level. i've also setup
kerneld and have compiled modules, et al. at first i didn't compile the
ipx and the appletalk modules as i have no need for them whatsoever.
however, upon reboot i found that some init script in the original
installation was calling for these nonexistent modules and creating an
error message. for the time being i've compiled them, but i sure would
like to know which script contains the calls.
and lastly, which directory at redhat (or any of the redhat mirrors)
contains the latest kernel-source rpm's if such monsters actually exist?
thanks in advance for any help. email answers work best as i'm not on the
list and am reading this via news.
again, thanks.
