can anyone help with this?

[root@tulipe dvidvi]# gcc -b i486-linuxaout -o dvidvi dvidvi.c
gcc: installation problem, cannot exec `cpp': No such file or directory

The ELF-howto says that's the right way of building a.out executables... i do
have the aout-libs rpm installed... using RedHat 4.0 ...

also [this is kind of related...] my problem with dvidvi is related to
libc-5.3.* i believe... it seg faults with big documents, i.e. when using a
lot of memory, and i vaguely remember some old codes had trouble with the new
malloc function of libc... am i right? in that case, can anyone give some
pointers as to how to work around this problem?

Thank you.
