1. Your strange LIL- output is quite common.
Were you trying out a different kernel?
It indicates probably that the MBR sector of your hard disk got
corrupted or something like that. That is why I always boot lilo from
floppies, and keep two around. When I get this, I use the other floppy
which usually is fine, get up to a running system, and re-run lilo onto
the floppies again and things are fine. If this is not clear to you, I
can try to be more specific in private mail. Or, you can check the
mailing list archives for my name. I sent in some information about how
to use lilo to boot from floppies a month or two ago.
2. Now, to the fix.
a. You seem to have Windows95 and linux on two separate drives; i.e.,
Windows on /dev/hda, and Linux on /dev/hdb, right?
Whatever you do with e2fsck on /dev/hdb should not affect what happens
on /dev/hda.
To fix things, try booting with
boot mount root=/dev/hdb2
and without the rw. Let the system do its thing. It should clean
itself up.
After booting and getting things up, try to run lilo again by typing
lilo
at the prompt.
See if you can then again reboot normally.
If not we go to other things, let me know.
Hope this helps.
