I always used to specify Compaqs - but we started having hte same trouble
(and we had it with HP too).

We ended up standardising on components and building systems - ASUS m/b,
Buslogic SCSI and 3C590 ethernet. These are all solid, 'standard' parts
that are well known and understood.
