Ok. Now suppose one of the machines is using windoze 3.1 (trumpet winsock).
Said machine would dump all its files onto the linux box, so that it would then
have its hd cleaned and linux would be installed on it, without losing its files
(which would be backed up onto the linux box via the temporary null-modem link).
How would one do this?

The catch is that, as far as I can tell, the trumpet makes a phone call to establish
ppp. If there is something trivial that works in its stead, please let me know. TIA,
