Building and installing TeX and all of its fonts, etc. is something I
would never want to do. But lucky for all of us, the guys at Red Hat
already did. Here is a list of the TeX related packages that I have
installed on my machine:

tetex-xdvi-0.3.3-8
tetex-dvips-0.3.3-8
tetex-0.3.3-8
tetex-latex-0.3.3-8

Look for books on LaTeX2e at the bookstore. I picked one up the other
day, (I can't remember the title) and in less than a week of playing
around with it I'm cranking out documents with headers & footers,
title pages, TOC's, tables, figures, different fonts. It took me a lot
longer to get this far with Frame Maker.

You might also check out the program, LyX. Its a sorta WYSIWYG front
end to LaTeX.
