All,
Thanks for all of the responses to my problem - the fix for me was to
use the isapnptools found at:
http://www.redhat.com/linux-info/pnp/
I just followed the instructions for these tools and now my modem is
working. I added to the file /etc/rc.local:
/sbin/isapnp /etc/isapnp.conf
setserial /dev/modem uart 16550A
the first line is from the isapnptools and tells the system about my
modem - the next line is to tell the system that the modem has access
to a 16550A UART - when I ran the command 'setserial /dev/modem -a'
it showed that it did not know the modem had access to a UART - I have
used the program seyon to dial into work and read my mail - now to get
ppp dialup to work. :)
