I used the Kernel Configurator to add support for my ethernet card, which
seemed like a painless way of installing modular support for hardware
without having to build it into the kernel. I then installed the kernel source
package, built a module for soundcard support and put it into the
/lib/modules/2.0.18/misc directory. I then tried to configure it with the
Kernel using the Kernel Configurator, but could not figure out how to get it
recognized by the Add menue. What is confusing is that the module types in
the add menue do not appear to have a 1-to-1 correspondence with the
subdirectories of /lib/modules/2.0.18 .
