We are all using versioned moduled. That means every recompile of our
kernels (and modules) stamps them with a "signature" relating to that
kernel. If you have changed and pruned the kernel, and removed extranous
modules, (as most of us do) you then have a mix of modules. The solution
is to remove your kernel modules directory (and keep a backup), and
recompile your kernel, including modules, and modules_install.
