Yes, you are correct, and what I'm asking for is the have the rpm system
& database keep track of the base list for me. I simply install what I
consider
base packages & then run, say, rpm -LOCK 'rpm -qa'.
But, what I'm proposing is that *you*, as sysadmin have control over
what packages are *locked*. If you don't want to use the feature, you
don't, simple as that. Yes, I agree, I would hope that RedHat would NOT
get involved & *lock* things for me. In any case, I can simply do an
UNLOCK & then do whatever I want.
