Hi,
I'm currently busy installing a DEC/Alpha 2000 AXP with Redhat. I've
encountered a few problems. Because some things still don't seem to
work, I have no other option. I hope there's someone to help me, or at
least guide me.
My problems:
--------------------
* The DEC 4220 Ethernet EISA card isn't found by Redhat.
- I've tried to find info about the card on the web, tried to give
"ether=5,0x300,0,0,eth0" before startup. None of it works. (this is
my most important problem)
* X-Windows seems to have a problem when I try to start it. It says:
TRANS(SocketUNIXConnect) () can't connect: errno = 61
giving up.
xinit: Connection refused ((errno 2): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error.
- I think my video card isn't detected either. I've got a Compaq
QVision 1024 and I don't have a single clue about the chipset and
resolutions. I know it's 1 MB and that it can handle 16,8 Mill.
colors.
At Compaq they didn't know the technical specifications either...
* When I tried to install the Redhat system (after doing a 'minlabel'
and
'copyboot') it asks for the ROOT disk (ramdisk)... and then for the
bootdisk.
The second disk seems to give a few errors... but it loads the setup
menu.
- Anyone knows the 'perfect' way to install it? I've been looking on
the
www.redhat.com pages and the www.azstarnet.com pages... But not
a "clean" success.
Thanks in advance,
Maurice Castelijn.
