It's actually really easy.

1) Get one of the bootdisks in updates/imags/i386/scsi. They have a bit
   more room for kernels then the original boot disk (this is only an
   issue of free space though -- the rest of this is the same for all
   versions of the Intel boot disk).

2) mount /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy
3) cp vmyour.kernel /mnt/floppy/vmlinuz
4) lilo -r /mnt/floppy
5) umount /mnt/floppy
6) shutdown -r now
