One of things I like about RedHat in general, and the RedHat lists in
particular, is that I can frequently get quick answers to problems
which come up in my day-to-day operations "using" RedHat Linux.
Most of us are busy and want to get things done as quickly as is
possible. If I have a Solaris question, it takes days and days to get
an answer. This means I have to keep thinking about it and it takes away
from other productive activity.
I think it is good for all of us, and a good marketing strategy for
RedHat to keep these channels open. If a topic of frequent discussion
were put in a FAQ, then the traffic dealing with it on the list will
diminish, so it is good to have it.
My feeling is that Donnie is just too busy to deal with specific
non-RedHat issues. I don't think he was discouraging using this list
for non-RedHat specific issues, but just saying that *he* won't add to
his workload by administering a non-RedHat-specific FAQ.
