I see two sides to this.
One side is summed up by asking, "Just how inadvertent does it have to be?" I
mean typing, "rpm -e SysVinit-2.62-1" is pretty explicit, don't you think? At
a certain point ya just have to accept the fact that you're human. And you
just might foul it up. Been there -- done that. Didn't like me for a while.
But that's life. I'm a human -- thank ya very much.
On the other side, as with any system, having rings of authority can be
beneficial. I think it needlessly encumbers rpm to have that sophistication
here. Ummmmm...but I could be wrong -- I'm human ya know.
Perhaps an rpm list of base packages might be handy. However, that does open
up the ole worm cans. For example, is networking essential? Sometimes yes;
sometimes no.
I'd vote for leaving rpm lie in this regard.
